Asylum statistics July 2026

Update Explained
In July 2026, the Immigration Office registered 2,019 applicants seeking international protection, with each individual, including children, being counted separately. Afghanistan, Palestine, and Eritrea were the top countries of origin for these applicants, followed by Turkey, Congo, Burundi, Cameroon, Guinea, Syria, and Russia to complete the top ten. In the same month, the CGRS made 2,495 decisions affecting 3,109 individuals, with a protection rate of 22.7%. As of the end of July, the CGRS had a total workload of 27,163 pending cases. Given the current rate of application inflow and staff capacity, 6,500 cases are considered a normal workload, meaning the backlog at that time stood at 20,663 cases.
Why it matters
The CGRS is facing a significant backlog with a pending workload more than four times what is considered normal, which may delay the processing of new and existing applications.
