Update Explained

Yousif Abdulraouf Alhallaq, a former medical doctor originally from Kuwait who later lived in Canton, Ohio, was convicted of naturalization fraud. Alhallaq originally entered the U.S. on an H-1B visa in 2006 and became a lawful permanent resident in 2011. After that, he began working as an internal medicine doctor. In 2014, Alhallaq committed a crime by attempting to terminate his girlfriend’s pregnancy without her knowledge and was later convicted of attempted murder and felonious assault. Despite these actions, Alhallaq applied for U.S. citizenship in 2017 and lied on his naturalization application by denying any involvement in a crime. He reiterated these false statements in a 2018 interview under oath with an immigration officer, and subsequently became a naturalized citizen. His failure to disclose his criminal background while applying for naturalization led to him being convicted of naturalization fraud. Alhallaq now faces up to 10 years in prison for this fraud and is at risk of being denaturalized.
