No lifting of protection status S

Update Explained
In light of the ongoing security issues in Ukraine, the Swiss Federal Council has decided to extend protection status S for individuals fleeing Ukraine until at least March 4, 2027. This status provides temporary protection and support measures for eligible individuals. The decision was made due to the unstable situation in Ukraine, marked by continued Russian attacks, preventing safe return at present. The State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) will now assess protection eligibility by distinguishing between Ukrainian regions deemed reasonable or unreasonable for return. The Council emphasizes cooperation with the European Union, which also extended temporary protection until the same date. Additionally, regulations will change from November 1, allowing status S holders to stay in Ukraine for up to 15 days per half-year instead of per quarter.
What changed
Protection status S is extended until March 4, 2027. Eligibility assessments will distinguish between regions in Ukraine based on return conditions starting November 1.
