UK opens electronic travel authorisation scheme

Update Explained
The United Kingdom has launched a new electronic travel authorisation (ETA) scheme, which is now available to Qatari nationals. This scheme is designed to simplify and digitize the travel process for visitors to the UK by requiring them to obtain an ETA, which replaces the previous Electronic Visa Waiver system. The ETA is cheaper and provides multiple entries over a two-year period or until the applicant's passport expires, whichever comes first. Qataris have been able to apply for this authorization since October 25, 2023, and can typically complete the application swiftly using a mobile app. The scheme aims to enhance the travel experience by making it more efficient and will be expanded to include nationals from other Gulf countries and Jordan from February 2024. Eventually, it will apply to many more nationalities who currently do not need a visa to visit or transit the UK.
